Greeting lovelies! Hi, it's Emmy. Welcome back!
Today's video is a little bit of a
follow-up to a video I did a few weeks ago,
in which I taste-tested a bunch of cookies
including the Cheetos cookie.
So the Cheetos cookie was invented at a place called "Cookie Good" in Santa Monica,
and when I was in Los Angeles, I picked up one to give it a taste test --
and if you haven't seen that video, I shall put the link down below;
and I asked you if you wanted to see me attempt to make my own version,
and I got a unanimous yes,
so here I am to show you my version of the Cheetos cookie.
So today I'm going to make three different version of this cookie:
I'm going to do the Flaming Hot; the Cheddar Jalapeño; and the Original.
Alright! Let's go into the kitchen and I shall show you how to make this.
So the first thing we're going to do is make our Cheeto powder.
So just pour some Cheetos into a food processor and pulse
and blend until you get a nice, fine powder.
Next we're going to make our dough.
To begin by adding some flour to the bowl,
along with some baking powder; some salt;
and some cheddar cheese powder.
Next we're going to cream our butter and sugar together
until it's nice and fluffy;
and beat this for about three minutes.
Next we're going to add our eggs; blend this up;
and then we're going to add our flour mixture.
Since I'm doing three flavors of cookies, I'm going to take the dough
and separate it into three bowls;
and to each bowl we're gonna add our Cheeto powder.
Work the Cheeto dust into the dough until it's nice and combined;
and if you want these to be nice and bright, add a little food coloring.
Make sure you grind up enough Cheeto powder so we can dust our cookies;
form a ball of dough, and then roll it
liberally into the Cheeto dust;
and place it on a parchment-lined or silpat-lined baking sheet.
Then we're going to place the cookies into a preheated
350-degree oven for twelve to fifteen minutes.
And there you have it -- beautiful Cheetos cookies!
And here are the cookies. And I think they turned out fabulously.
I have one cookie that I had put in the freezer
so I could do a little taste test.
All right, so let's give the original a taste first.
Here we go! Itadakimasu!
Mm-hmm...
The texture has changed just a little bit --
It's not of course course crisp on the outside -- it still
remains very soft.
I feel like you taste the Cheeto at the very end --
that kind of corny cheesiness --
and, to me, what the best part of this
cookie is this texture: very soft and chewy.
I really love a nice chewy cookie.
And I have to say that froze very, very well.
OK. So let's try my version:
the bottom looks pretty good -- I would say,
pretty close to the original.
Mine didn't crack as much as theirs;
and mine is a little bit puffier.
All right! Let's give our dupe a taste. Here we go!
Not bad...
Definitely a pronounced Cheeto flavor.
This is also freshly cooked, so I think my
whole kitchen smells like Cheeto,
so that might add to it.
This is a little bit saltier than the original;
and the texture is more cake-like and fluffier than the original.
I always thought the original to me has a better texture --
I really like the chewiness of it.
In terms of flavor -- it's pretty close
although mine is saltier -- I did use salted butter;
and I added some that cheese powder in there.
Not bad for my first attempt at a Cheeto dupe!
Let's try the next experiments: cheddar jalapeño cookie.
So it looks very similar to the original, but there are little flecks of green in there;
and it has a very pronounced jalapeño smell to it --
you know, if you get those jalapeño flavored chips...
It smells exactly that: chili-ed, and a little bit spicy, but very pleasant.
That's what it looks like inside. It breaks nicely.
It definitely looks more cake-like than the original one as well:
not as quite as dense...
Wow!
That definitely has a huge jalapeño/cheddar flavor to it...
that's sweet, and it leaves a bit of a oniony,
garlicky aftertaste as well --
not something I usually associate with cookies!
While the plain Cheeto cookie is passable as a dessert,
this is kind of just strange -- definitely noveI, and, I think, fun to share, but I don't think
something that I would at all crave;
but...interesting.
Next let's try the Flamin' Hot -- these are actually my favorite Cheetos --
but apparently in some places in the US you can find
Flaming Hot Cheetos in the puff version?
Let me know in the comments if you can find the Flamin' Hot puffs where you live,
because I've never seen them before.
As you saw in the recipe, I added some food coloring to this
because I wanted it to be that really signature red color.
All right! Here we go!
Erm... This is full of the Flamin' Hot flavor,
but it's really actually nicely balanced --
it still tastes like a sugar cookie --
and, at the very end of it, you get some heat.
If you enjoy Flamin' Hot Cheetos
I think you might enjoy this cookie --
just because of the novelty of it --
it has that signature Flamin' Hot flavor,
but it's in a sugar cookie form.
it's great!
Like the jalapeño, I don't think this is something that I would crave,
but because I have more of a history and past with Flamin' Hot Cheetos
I like this version better,
and I think this one is a little bit more balanced
than the jalapeño -- the jalapeño has a really strong flavor to it
and this does as well, but it's more in the form of heat.
So, in conclusion, I think this copycat recipe is definitely a success;
I think it could be tweaked a little bit more to get that really great chewy texture;
but if you're curious about what Cheeto cookies exactly taste like,
try this recipe and you'll get an idea.
All right! I hope you guys enjoyed that one!
I hope you guys learned something. Let me know in the comments if there are other copycat recipes
you'd like me to attempt.
